Philip Tetema Tondoneh
Honourable Philip Tetemah Tondoneh is an accomplished public servant, senior educationist, economist, and political leader with over three decades of experience in education, governance, post-conflict recovery, and public administration in Sierra Leone. Born on 11th July 1961 in Jaiama Nimikor, Kono District. He is married with four children and a United Methodist Christian.
He received his early and secondary education at Jaiama UMC Primary and Secondary Schools in Kono District, Sierra Leone Grammar School, and the Prince of Wales Secondary School. He holds a Higher Teachers Certificate (HTC) in Mathematics/Physics from Milton Margai Teachers College, a BSc (Hon) in Economics from Fourah Bay College, and MSc in Agricultural Economics from Njala University College.
Hon. Tondoneh began his career as a teacher of Mathematics, Physics, Economics, and Business Management, where served as Head of Department and senior teacher at the Prince of Wales School. He later founded the Education for Peace Project, reflecting his commitment to education, peace building, and social cohesion.
During Sierra Leone’s post-conflict period, he played key roles in DDR, reintegration, and repatriation programmes, serving as District Project Coordinator, Project Officer (DDR), District Reintegration and Repatriation Officer, and Officer-in-Charge of NACSA in Koinadugu District. He also worked as a Policy and Programme Analyst (Senior Economist) under a consortium of Donors (UNDP-led) Capacity Building Project in the Office of the former Vice President, Solomon Ekuma Berewa.
Politically, he is a founding member of the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD), Managing Editor True Sierra Leonean Newsletter (Conakry), Senior Sanction Monitoring Officer (Government House Guinea) and a long-standing senior member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). He has also served as Deputy and Regional Chairman of the SLPP (Eastern Region) respectively and as Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party. In 2007, he was elected Member of Parliament for Constituency 024, Kono District.
Hon. Tondoneh has held several senior executive positions, including Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Deputy Minister of Works and Public Assets, and is currently Deputy Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs. His career reflects a strong commitment to public service delivery, reform, decentralization, peacebuilding, and inclusive national development in Sierra Leone.
